Nuvei is a global acquirer with local payment methods in dozens of markets and a risk appetite wider than Shopify Payments. It is also absent from Shopify's gateway list in many countries, which leaves approved merchants with an account they cannot plug in. Here is how the integration works through an own-domain checkout, and what to check before you apply.
Nuvei is a payment technology company and acquirer serving merchants in North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. It offers card acquiring, a large set of local payment methods, and, through dedicated desks, underwriting for categories mainstream processors avoid, such as nutraceuticals, gaming, travel and certain subscription models. Approval is a Nuvei decision made on your application; nothing on this page changes that.
It depends on your store's country and can change. Open Settings, Payments, and look at the third-party providers available to you. If Nuvei appears, activating it there is the simplest path and Shopify's third-party transaction fee applies. If it does not appear, Shopify has no integration for you to switch on, and the route is an external checkout that talks to Nuvei's API directly.
Merchant ID, site ID and secret key from your Nuvei account, sandbox first.
We host checkout.your-brand.com with Nuvei's tokenised card fields, 3-D Secure, and the local methods enabled on your account.
Each capture is written into Shopify with full detail and tagged, so fulfilment and apps run as before.
Refunds and partial refunds are issued from the CascadeCheckout console and reconciled against Nuvei. Chargebacks arrive through Nuvei's notifications and are attached to the order. If you keep a second gateway beside Nuvei, the cascade retries there on a soft decline. The full flow.
Nuvei approves broadly, but no single acquirer approves every card. Merchants typically pair it with a domestic acquirer for their main market, or with NMI-connected acquirers in North America, so that a decline on one is retried on the other. Where buyers are spread across regions, routing by card country sends each attempt to the acquirer with the best odds first. Multiple gateways with failover.
Where Shopify lists Nuvei for your country, yes, through Settings. Elsewhere it connects through an own-domain checkout that uses Nuvei's API and writes orders back into Shopify.
No. You apply to Nuvei directly and disclose your business. We connect the account once Nuvei has approved it.
The methods enabled on your Nuvei account can be presented on the own-domain checkout alongside cards.
No. The checkout runs outside Shopify and works on every plan.

CascadeCheckout is checkout software, not a payment service provider, bank or merchant-account seller. You contract with your own gateway or acquirer, disclose your real business category to them, and receive payouts from them. We never hold funds and we do not promise that any processor will approve you.
