Bypass Shopify Payments

Bypass Shopify Payments. Own domain. Any gateway. Off the radar.

The bypass is not a hack. It is an architecture: point the Buy button on your Shopify storefront at a checkout URL you control, wire the gateway you contracted with directly, and let the transaction settle on your MID instead of Shopify Payments. The Shopify store stays alive. The Shopify order record still exists. Shopify Payments does not see the transaction at all, so category-flag scoring on that traffic never fires. Live in 24-48 hours.

What "bypass" actually means here

Bypassing Shopify Payments is a routing decision. Shopify's default checkout URL sits on shop.app or a Shopify-hosted subdomain and captures through Shopify Payments. When you point your Buy button at a checkout URL you control (checkout.your-brand.com) and capture through your own gateway API, you have bypassed Shopify Payments for that transaction. Shopify Payments' pipeline never receives the authorization message, never sees the response code, never adds to the chargeback and decline signals it uses for risk-scoring your account.

Why merchants bypass Shopify Payments

What the bypass does in three steps

1

Wire your gateway

API keys for the gateway that already approved your MCC. Any gateway with an API — Stripe, NMI reseller, Nuvei, Airwallex, Adyen high-risk, Whop, PXP, offshore, custom HTTP.

2

Point the Buy button

Shopify storefront Buy button redirects to checkout.your-brand.com. TLS + PCI tokenization. Shopify Payments express buttons suppressed by the cloak layer.

3

Order writes back to Shopify

Captured order posts to Shopify Admin API tagged [cascade]. Fulfillment app, ERP, subscription tool, marketing pixels all fire on the standard order-created event.

The bypass is architecture, not deception. Own-domain checkout is a standard pattern for enterprise Shopify Plus merchants building custom Storefront applications. What CascadeCheckout adds is the productized version for merchants without engineering teams. Shopify's own docs describe how third-party checkouts integrate via Storefront + Admin APIs. The bypass uses those documented APIs, not any undocumented backdoor.

What we do NOT do

Frequent questions

How do I bypass Shopify Payments?

Route checkout through a subdomain of your own brand instead of Shopify's native checkout URL. The transaction captures on your gateway, not Shopify Payments. Shopify Payments never touches the payment. The order still writes back to Shopify Admin so fulfillment and apps keep working.

Can I bypass Shopify Payments and still keep my Shopify store?

Yes. Shopify itself and Shopify Payments are separate products. The store, catalog, apps and fulfillment continue. Only the payment step routes through your own gateway instead of Shopify Payments.

Do I need Shopify Plus to bypass Shopify Payments?

No. Own-domain checkout via CascadeCheckout works on any paid Shopify plan. The Buy button on your product page redirects to your own subdomain regardless of Shopify plan tier.

Is bypassing Shopify Payments allowed?

Own-domain checkout is a standard architecture pattern used by every enterprise Shopify merchant on custom Storefront builds. Shopify does not require merchants to use Shopify Payments — it requires them to have a way to accept payment on the store. Your own gateway meets that requirement.
