Hosted checkout page: what it is, how it compares to iframe and API integrations, and one for any platform.

A hosted checkout page, or hosted payment page, is a checkout served by someone other than your store's platform. Buyers leave your storefront for a page you or your provider control, pay, and return. Providers have offered them for twenty years; what has changed is that a hosted checkout can now read your cart, write the order back into your platform, and route between several processors. Most modern hosted checkouts, ours included, are a hosted page that uses the processor's hosted fields inside it: the buyer never leaves a page you control, and card data still never touches your systems.

When a hosted checkout is the right model

Your platform's checkout cannot run the processor you need, or only one processor at a time.
You run more than one storefront or platform and want one checkout, one set of credentials, one ledger.
You need currency, language and payment methods chosen per buyer.
You want the lightest PCI scope and no card-handling code of your own.
You are a payment provider that needs a checkout to put in front of merchants on platforms you do not integrate with. White-label checkout.

What a hosted checkout has to get right

Reading the cart from the platform: items, quantities, discounts, shipping rates, taxes, customer.
Writing the order back as paid, with a payment reference, so fulfilment, apps and reports are unaffected.
Trust. The buyer must see the merchant's brand and domain, not a stranger's.
Speed on mobile. The page loads on a phone on a slow connection in under two seconds.
Tracking continuity. Pixels and server-side events survive the domain change.
Failure handling. Declines retried where possible, timeouts handled, nothing charged twice.

What is a hosted checkout page?

A checkout served from a domain other than your platform's, where the buyer pays and is returned. Modern versions read your cart and write the order back so your platform stays the system of record.

Is a hosted checkout PCI compliant?

Using a hosted checkout with the processor's hosted fields keeps the merchant at SAQ A, the lightest scope, because card data never touches the merchant's systems.

Does a hosted checkout hurt conversion?

It can if it looks foreign or loads slowly. On the merchant's own subdomain with the merchant's brand and a fast single page, merchants see completion hold or improve, and decline recovery adds sales.
