Shopify supports over a hundred third-party gateways worldwide, but you only ever see the ones enabled for your country, you can run only one card gateway at a time, and each order carries an extra fee. This page explains the list, the fee, the limits, and the route for a gateway that is not on it.
Open Settings, then Payments, then the third-party providers link. The list is filtered by the country of your store's address. A gateway that works for a US store may be absent for a store in the UAE or Pakistan, and the reverse. Shopify adds a gateway only after the provider builds and certifies an integration, so the list reflects which providers invested in Shopify, not which providers would approve your business.
Typical names by region, subject to change: PayPal almost everywhere; Authorize.net, Braintree and Amazon Pay in the US; Mollie, Klarna and Adyen in parts of Europe; Razorpay, PayU and CCAvenue in India; Paystack and Flutterwave in Africa; Mercado Pago and dLocal in Latin America; Telr, PayTabs and Checkout.com in the Gulf.
When Shopify Payments is not the active provider, Shopify charges a transaction fee on each order in addition to whatever the gateway charges. At the time of writing the published rates are about 2% on Basic, 1% on the Shopify plan, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, and they vary by country. On a store doing $20,000 a month on Basic, that is roughly $400 a month before the gateway's own rate. Full breakdown of the fee.
Three possibilities, in order of effort:
| Shopify Payments | Listed third-party gateway | Own-domain checkout | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Extra Shopify fee | None | 0.2% to 2% by plan | Only on payments Shopify processes |
| Gateway choice | Shopify Payments | Country list | Any API |
| Card gateways at once | One | One | Up to four routes |
| Restricted categories | Declined | Usually declined | Acquirer's decision |
| Shop Pay | Yes | No | No |
| Setup | Minutes | Days | 24-48 hours after keys |
Over a hundred worldwide, but the list you see is filtered to your store's country, and only one of them can capture cards at a time.
Because the provider has not built or been approved for a Shopify payments integration in your country. The provider, not the merchant, has to do that.
Yes on most plans: roughly 2%, 1%, 0.6% or 0.2% per order depending on plan, in addition to the gateway's own rate.
One card gateway plus wallets and alternative methods. Automatic failover between two card processors is not available in Shopify's checkout; it needs an external checkout with routing.

CascadeCheckout is checkout software, not a payment service provider, bank or merchant-account seller. You contract with your own gateway or acquirer, disclose your real business category to them, and receive payouts from them. We never hold funds and we do not promise that any processor will approve you.
