Netherlands PSP partner program: iDEAL and cards on Shopify and WooCommerce, through your gateway.

Dutch buyers pay with iDEAL first and cards second, and Dutch PSPs built their businesses on that. Shopify's gateway list for the Netherlands carries only a few of them. When a Dutch merchant opens a Shopify store, the PSP that would have given them iDEAL, Bancontact for Belgium and a sensible card rate is often simply unavailable. This page explains how Dutch PSPs, Adyen resellers and midlayer providers connect their merchants anyway.

The Dutch specifics

iDEAL. The majority of Dutch online payments; a merchant without it loses Dutch buyers. Presented as the first method for Dutch buyers, cards for everyone else.
Bancontact and Belgium. Most Dutch merchants sell into Belgium; Bancontact sits beside iDEAL by buyer country.
The PSP landscape. Independent PSPs, Adyen resellers and midlayer providers that sit between a shop and an acquirer, and payment institutions licensed by DNB. Many serve WooCommerce through their own plugin and have no route to Shopify.
Merchant categories. Supplements, smart-shop products, CBD, nicotine alternatives and subscription boxes are routinely refused by Shopify Payments and routinely served by Dutch PSPs.
Language and entity. Dutch-language checkout, KvK-registered entities, BTW handling on the order. The checkout is localised and the order written into the store with the correct tax lines.

Providers with a WooCommerce-style integration

Several Dutch PSPs integrate shops through a WooCommerce plugin model: the shop registers, the PSP calls back to fixed endpoints on the shop's domain, and the shop polls for payment updates. We implement those endpoints on the merchant's checkout host, register the shop under the merchant's own domain, and reconcile payments, refunds and chargebacks by polling where no webhooks exist. The PSP sees a normal shop; the merchant sees a normal Shopify store.
